I just got a box of 2020 pennies. Is there anything special to look for, and what should I be looking for in new pennies besides grade? Thanks!

There are so far only 3 minor doubled dies known. All are very small and difficult to spot and likely would not carry much of a premium if any. http://www.doubleddie.com/2516921.htmlAlthough, with the coin shortage and banks refusing to give out coins (Many collectors are no longer CRHing), the potential for undiscovered doubled dies and other errors or varieties is high. If you are set on opening the rolls to look for errors, I'd recommend looking closely for anything and everything and ask questions if you see anything unusual!

Now I always get perplexed by other doubling versus real die doubling. If a doubles look is flat it's not the one I'm looking for I believe. If the seriffs are split and it is raised I was under the understanding it's real. Now I'm seeing , however it's on a lot in this one roll, a triple stack of the date. With close magnifying I actually see the date on top and two more layers under it, I have never seen this. Also it seems these coins have a lot of changers, so I'm assuming the only thing that is a worth while error would be a deposit of metal from a chip or something on the die. Noindents from the mint are worthy of keeping?

I never expected to see so much damage on the new coins . How do all these marks happen. I now of the rinse spots but a lot of these scratches are pretty sufficient.

So I'm finding a lot with the same doubling. I'm inclined to believe it's not doubled die. However I am seeing the same notching in the 2 of the date on some of them, and on others there is strong separating in the god, now if I am finding the same doubling on more that one or two coins does that mean I may have found a true doubles die? And with the ones that have the notching at the end of the 2 I am also seeing a very similar if not the same die crack above the eye. I don't want to get excited because whenever I think I have something I'm wrong but if I am correct about all of that information I must have a new variety of DDO for 2020 right? I will try and post pictures but I don't have a sufficient way of doing so right now

Jayeroner, try to photography what you're seeing. Photographing won't be easy, there is lots of glare from those extremely shiny coins. A few months back I had a box of 2019 cents. I first thought I hit the jackpot seeing so many doubled coins! But I soon found out nearly everything I was seeing was glare on poorly minted strikes. Particularly the word "Liberty" was mushy and uneven. In my experience (your mileage may vary) those rinse spots where EVERYWHERE and made the coins very unappealing. They were all very shiny pieces of gold but after 20 or 30 rolls or so I was being driven batty seeing the same coin over and over. I ended up keeping and storing away about 25 untouched rolls for future use. So my advice is this: temper your expectations and look for well struck coins. Line 10 coins up in a row and look down the row comparing one to another, keep the best one or two, then create a new row and repeat the process. When photographing them, try using only one defused light source, daylight being the best to use. Be patient. Share your best findings with us here brace yourself against negative feedback. The single greatest problem that you'll have to master is glare! Ask us your questions and don't get frustrated with us. Good luck

Go to koinpro.tripod.com and put it in favorites. Right now the site is down. As to what to look for, regardless of year...look for errors-varieties and high grades. John1

I have an entire box of 2020 D's and I've put aside a few with "thicker dates" but just going through the box slowly, other than that, nothing found yet.
