Looking at variety vista, all that's there is one black and white picture of this coin. Same on Wexlers. This indicates to me that this is a very rare coin. What do you think?

Interesting. I'll wait to see what the others have to say.

Do you have one? If so,

I wouldn't automatically assume a coin is "rare" just because there is an old photo. Could be because it's so common, no one bothers. Just don't assume is the point.

James @ Variety Vista does list both Obverse die Varieties listed by CONECA.
http://varietyvista.com/01a%20LC%20...0PDDO002.htm
CONECA lists a POP @ 2 MS65 examples of the Class 6 Doubled Die Obverse DDO 002 (2-O-VI) 1 Class 4 DDO-001 (2-O-IV)

Not sure of the accuracy of the POP report but to voice an opion towards your question. I believe both DDO & DDR Varieties are quite scarce. I'd also take a guess and say any example showing Class 6 doubling his 1930 Lincoln Cent thatearly die stage CopperCoins also lists the Obverse #002 as 1930P-1DO-001. The CopperCoins example @ a "MDS" & James @VarietyVista lists a very similar die state. The coin shown @ VarietyVista is also a MDS example. The VarietyVista labels their coin @ Stage C. Interesting how James makes the classification of die stage versus die state. It's a clever way to identify a strike in relation to time. The end result is essentially the same.
With that being said a coin struck @ earlier stages/die state may be like finding hens teeth?
The Class 6doubled die shows a significant amount of extra thickness @(MDS) I assume an earlier example of Die #002 would be extremely sought after and likeky shows greater detail of seperation. This has me very curious.

Not "versus" though, more like "in tandem" with each other.
Actually he uses both Stage and Die State. When I'm having trouble finding markers, I use die state to help zero in on a possible stage. Then I can look closer for hard to spot markers.

ps. I just noticed VV seems to have dropped the population and value box from the listings.
That's depressing and frustrating. It was a very handy reference.

Yea Pete I noticed that. The value and pop up are there for some coins but most are not.
