Now at one of the online auctions, a collector has put up 1 dollar coins from 1966 from the collection of Ted Williams with a unique NGC label.
Does this label add to the value of the coin ?

Not in my opinion, you are buying the label not the coin.

I'm with John, but in this day and age, I'd bet that the "provenance" will in fact juice the price of these.

An interesting feature of the TPG is that those coins that have been graded higher than they merit, or that have some weird cache of this sort, means that they will only be sold to people who are inexperienced enough to buy based on the holder. I'm watching a half dozen or so coins on ebay that are in this camp and therefore priced insanely high. The world would be better off it they could just be cracked out of their holders and stapled into 2 x 2s. They're perfectly collectable coins.

Perhaps to someone who is a big Ted Williams Fan, but he is known for baseball, not coins, so its a pretty tenuous connection.

A Joe DiMaggio owned guitar, or an Eric Clapton owned baseball bat. Possible a coin collector in Massachusetts might find it compelling, but not too many others.

A guy I worked with who recently retired is Ted William's godson. His father played in the minor leagues with Roger Maris and others and was good friends with Ted even helping him manage the Washington Senators. Ted called up his dad telling him he needed him to help him out with the Senators. Friends for life they were. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_C..._(baseball). The next time I see him I'll ask him if he knows anything about Ted collecting coins. I hope he had a heckuva collection. https://www.NGCcoin.com/news/articl...ed-Williams/
