What you have is a zinc core cent that's copper plated. What you're seeing is called "split plate doubling" caused by the pressure of the strike to break the copper plating making the zinc core exposed. It can be found on most years of the zinc cents (2.5 grams) Very common with the LMC don't see it as much on LSC
