Yea it's listed but he can't advertise how good the grade is on that coin he is selling because the company that graded it was not on e-bays list of authorized graders. All graders have different outcomes when they grade coins. Just be CAREFULL when you buy. Request large pictures.

In the time it took that seller to fuss about ebay, he could've shot detailed pics and increased bids on his coin. Irony, lol.

Quote: he can't hype up how good the grade is on that coin he is selling because the company that graded it is a joke...It's some flyby night grading company Umm, I think you are confusing SEGS with SGS- they are two completely different companies. One is a boiler room operation schlocking pocket change on Ebay(SGS) while the other is a legitimate grading service that has been in business for about 10 years(SEGS). No, SEGS is not a top tier grader with the likes of PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG but I would call them a solid second tier TPG along with the old PCI(I haven't figured out where the new DGS lies in the grand scheme of things). They travel to shows just like the big 4 and they take submissions from the general public. Their biggest downsides would probably be that they can be a bit liberal with modern grades and they will not always annotate a coin as cleaned, sometimes just lowering the grade a notch for a light cleaning. SEGS area of specialty is attribution and they have some decent people on staff. Ever heard of the Cherrypicker's Guide? One of the authors, Bill Fivaz, is an attributor for SEGS. BTW, the other author, JT Stanton, used to be an attributor at PCI. However, that coin cannot possibly be judged on its own merits due to the fact that the seller can't seem to take a decent photo of the obverse and then forgets about the reverse completely. I do not care if that was a gold plated PCGS slab- I would never buy that coin without actually being able to see it

ya like he could have just taken it out of that slab put a return policy on it and like ya said nice pictures. That's if it was worth more then a cent to begin with. Oh wait the slab by itself I would have bought for a rare cent. I could put one of my rare coins in it. CNGC (Coindexter Numismatic Grading Company) Do I have any ones interest if I start slabbing?.$$$ HE HE biokemist6 I wouldn't trust any of them 2nd or 3rd tier companies with my coins so in the same return I would not buy from them either. E-bay kicked them out not me.?MY opinion

not sure you should put Brian Allen in the category as a scammer either. I don't collect Lincoln cents and even u have heard his name thrown around in th community. SEGS may get the grades wrong at times but atleast they are actually a third party grading company that takes in submissions from the public and not just plop their own inventory in plastic slabs and over inflate the grades and sell them as being graded as a third party grading company

SEGS is not a bad company, and they have no relationship to SGS.
In fact, they seem pretty accurate & conservative.

OK I will take back all my bad if you can tell me who all on here owns a slabbed coin graded by them? Or would be willing to purchase one. Also is there anyone on here going to be sending any of your coins to them for grading any time soon? Why did E-bay put them on the list with the others? If they sell good service I apologize but I have yet to see or hear or read about anyone having good service with them. I would love to find a grading company that is a lot cheaper to send my coins into then the others as long as the coins will not be looked down on when I try to sell them. Everyone has there own opinions on service and products. Do you like Chevy's,fords or Toyota's. My uncle is a Master mech. I tell him to keep his fords I will take a Chevy any day over a ford. Wendy's or McDonald's? Just judging products and service. It's just my opinion and other people has there's read. http://coins.about.com/od/coingradi...ng_tiers.htmhttp://coins.about.com/gi/dynamic/o...=0&bts=1&zu=http://www.pngdealers.com/category.php%3Fcategory_id=4

For what it's worth, there are a LOT of dealers who specifically look for SEGS graded coins because they know that they most of them will cross over to PCGS. I think their whole problem is that they don't have the marketing skills that PCGS and NGC have. Personally, I think ANACS would be ranked second if they marketed better. I certainly like them a lot better than NGC.
Also, I have to say that I would buy a SEGS coin before I would buy an NGC coin. This is just my personal opinion, but it is based on experience.
On this particular coin, the seller should have taken the time to take better pics. I don't know why sellers don't feel that it's important to picture the coin just because it's in a slab. He also shouldn't have wasted his title characters the way he did. He could have put "Uncirculated" or "UNC" in the title. He's just not allowed to list numerical grades.

Throwing my personal opinion in the ring... For variety collectors (doubled dies and the such) SEGS and ANACS are the top two graders. While PCGS and NGC do recognize a small percentage of the known die varieties (somewhere around 5%), SEGS and ANACS are much closer to 75% and will work harder for less money to get accurate variety designations on your coins. Unless your coins are CherryPickers' Guide top varieties, NGC and PCGS are basically worthless to the variety collector. Take this opinion from someone who has had dinner with, conversations with, or worked with three different top-tier grading company presidents, and multiple people who work at the grading companies. I like most of the people but do not agree 100% with any of them on how they are carrying out taking care of the customers.

Susanlynn9- I was just curious as to why you don't like NGC? I've never heard anything bad about them. Can you fill me in? Also, I'm very surprised to see all the support for SEGS on here. I think I'll have to research them a little better. I'm fairly new to this forum and I can't believe the amount of stuff I have learned in just a few days time.
