Well, I'm fairly sure that a great deal of of my ancient coins depict characters, gods, goddesses or are closely related in some way or another to events I have been fascinated to read about when I was a boy. First there were the books, later came the coins :)
And maybe, to some degree, that's the case with a lot of us.
My first ancient coin ever was a Marcus Aurelius bronze - which I regret having sold - and I chose that coin at the time because Meditations was one of my most cherished books.
