Hello all,

I know (or think I know) this isn't any sort of doubling. I was going to keep this as one my nicer 1974's (tone is nice, etc.) then noticed the odd wear on GOD W

The rest of the coin is unaffected.

Maybe grease in the die?

Edit: 1974 not 1774.

Thanks!

This is a large date for that year. The motto is affected by uneven grease in the devices. Possible that the operator noticed the grease and wiped dhow the dies with a cloth. Thus moving the grease in a direction on the die. The grease prevented the striking up of the devices.

Thanks Coop - that's the only thing that made sense to me. Gonna keep it though! I'm still new enough that I 2x2 any find I get. I'll wind up with the most worthless collection of all time :)

Well it could be an educational piece to a new collector. A kind of coin show and tell.
