If the alignment isn't a match it creates flat field doubling on the second strike flattening the first strike edges: Even happens on doubled dies also: Just like Machine Doubling can alter the devices after the strike. The second strike can alter the first strike on proof coins. But on your coin, I feel the MD happened after the second strike. As I mentioned on the 'D' you can see where it was reduced, so it is Machine Doubling. If this were a doubled die, then the devices would be enlarged: Note there is no flattening, just an enlargement of the devices. The contour is intact. Machine Doubling removes the contour.
