Hi guys, as the title suggests, I am wondering if you guys could provide me with some advice/insight on a couple Mexican coins.

1) What would you consider a fair price for the two coins, a piece?
2) The 1870 20 pesos looks fairly nice, expect for an area on the reverse. There appears to be a gash/gouge on the left side scales of justice that extends to the "I" in veinte. What would cause that?

Here are the NGC price guide listings for your coins:

I don't know these but I would say that the dates/mints are nothing special and neither is the condition so I would say they are not worth much more than melt value which is still pretty good.

Check ebay sold values for a realistic idea on values.

Basically, they are bullion coins, where almost all of the value of the coin is related to the gold value, and doesn't have much to do with the condition of the coin.

Almost goes without saying the coins in uncirculated condition would be easier to sell, but for much the same price as lower condition coins.

The only real standouts for bullion gold coins are excessively rare date / mm World gold, and American gold coins in better than MS-65 condition. Then, pristine coins can attract astronomical prices.
