I found this dime today with my metal detector. I don't now much about error coins.
Was wondering what is wrong with this coin? What kind of error is it? How much could it
be worth? Should I grade it? the red spots on the face side is copper showing through nickel
plating. Thanks for watching.

to CCF. Not an error coin. Looks like some kind of environmental damage caused from being buried.

@art, first welcome to CCF. Second, while this coin didn't leave the mint looking like this, I'm not sure exactly what happened to your coin. It doesn't look like the broad bubbling caused from extreme heat (such as a campfire) so perhaps these are bubbles from corrosion in the soil. I might just keep this one even though it is just damaged.

To CCF , All I can say is it is not a mint error . I don't know of any kind of ground environment that would do that to this coin . PMD before it went into the ground .

Agree. Not an error--as errors are defined within the numismatic community. Harsh environmental agents did a number on it.
