There have been many threads here about how risky
ebay is for sellers and how
ebay and PayPal tend to side with buyers. I've sold many coins on
ebay without problem until this week, but I thought I'd share a relatively good outcome.
I sold a roll of Walking Lib half dollars on
ebay a couple months ago. I was a little leery about the buyer because he had only opened his account a couple weeks earlier, and his mailing address was a mailbox in a small business building in Las Vegas. But he paid in full and his only two feedbacks were positive. I shipped with tracking and signature confirmation (although I suspect with COVID the USPS probably didn't get a signature), and I took a photo of the package before mailing.
Tracking showed that it arrived a couple days later, and I didn't hear anything until this week when PayPal notified me that a dispute was opened for an unauthorized transaction. I emailed them the USPS tracking number and the photo of the package, and within 24 hours I got an update from PayPal that since I followed all the requirements, I was fully covered until their Seller Protection policy and the funds were released again.
I don't know what's happening on the buyer's end, or where the roll of WLH's ended up, but at least I'm whole, and the buyer is now my first blocked buyer. Interestingly, the buyer's feedback now has several negatives for lack of payment within the past month. I guess I dodged a bullet, but it certainly pays to follow the rules and be careful with documentation.
