At $3, a good buy regardless of the technical grade.
MDS obverse and LDS reverse. Softer peripheral strike than usual for 1930, but not soft enough to affect eye appeal. Fairly heavy die clashing and moderate polishing. Notice the LIB of LIBERTY / right rear leg clash, with polishing on obverse and heavy polishing on reverse; Indian's chin / EPU clash, with moderate polishing obverse and reverse, Indian's neck / buffalo's back clash, unpolished on obverse (the hairy neck is evident) and moderate polishing on reverse; and second feather / buffalo's head and UNI of UNITED clash, polished on obverse and reverse.
Regarding the strike, the second feather rachis is almost complete, but the lower braids and ribbons are weak. The first feather lacks detail. On the reverse, the buffalo's back above the tail and buffalo's head and horn are weak. The peripheral lettering is weak and the "F" of FIVE and "S" of CENTS are merging with the rim.
On the obverse, there is modest wear on the hair, cheek, eyebrow, braid, and ribbons. On the reverse, there is modest wear on the buffalo's head, back, flank, front leg and shoulder, and on the ground level. There are evident contact marks on the cheek, lips, and nose. The remaining contact marks are less noticeable. Overall, the contact marks are market acceptable for AU. Taking into consideration the die state, strike, and die polishing, the obverse would reach an AU-50 technical grade and the reverse would come in at AU-50, barely. (If EF-48 ever catches on, the reverse would land there.) I see the blended grade as AU-50, with one possible caution. The photos were taken through the 2x2, and it is impossible to assess the luster and surface conditions from the photos. The color suggests a possible cleaning and partial retoning. If the surfaces are original, IMHO, AU-50 is net grade.
