I found this quarter and it looks like it's gold plated.

I'm not sure if it came out of a set or someone made it look like this.

I was wondering if it's worth anything more than 25 cents.

Thanks in advance.

Phatum: To CCF. At one time the coin you see had been gold plated in mint sets Sold on TV. I know this due to me getting a couple sets. Its worth is 25 cent. Some have been spent on the market after being taken out of the sets.

HSN special. Worth face value.

When the States quarters came out, they were hot. People went gaga over them. They were saving sets for the grand children. They were give names to die events/coin events, jut to unload what they could cash in on. People were saving rolls to make albums with. Then it all died. But HSN had a gimmic there they were selling sets of the all the different mintmarks, Gold plated examples and Platinum plated coins. They sell them by the boat loads to the Rubes. Well the true collectors knew better than buying plated stuff, as it ruins the value of the coin to a collector. But the Rubes didn't know that. They were selling out all the could for many years. Now the rubes figured out that they were taken for a ride and now dumping these into the circulation. So you see these now and then when someone figures out they are just a face value coin and spend them.

Thanks guys! I figured it wasn't anything special. These State Quarters remind me of the comic industry in the 90's. High quantity and low demand.

I'd probably save it in a 2x2 for novelty purposes but knowing that it is only worth face value.

I've held onto this thing long enough. It's going back into circulation.
