Is this the acknowledged DDR FS-801(027.8)for the 1971-D Washington quarter?

per Variety Vista:

"Die crack from eagle's Left (viewer's Right) wing through first A of AMERICA and F of OF - MDS
Die crack continues through IC of AMERICA
Die crack across front of bust through first 1 of date - LDS"

----the coin seems to exhibit this variety marker --

Let me know what you think! Thanks!

It can't be a doubled die if it doesn't have doubling!

Those are common places for die cracks on Washington quarters, there will be many dies with them.

Die markers shouldn't be used to find doubling. You should find the doubling first then use the die markers for confirmation.

I was lucky enough to find a 1971-D FS-801 in change a few years ago. If you'd like to see pics of the doubling and die markers I was able to see on my coin, I posted pics on my website: http://crdievarieties.com/doku.php?...1d25csddr001

lol Thanks!! I was trying to force myself to see doubling....probably just cross-eyed from staring at it too hard :/ But this is good, I wanted to confirm that specific die cracks, scratches, etc. wouldn't be unique to the specific die causing the doubling. Good to know!

I usually do try to find doubling first and verify by markers, but a quick second glance caught those specific markers so it just created more questions thans confirmations....joys of numismatic!

Yes, die cracks tend to show up in the same places from die to die. Like how a majority of the new shield cents have die cracks and or chips on the top left of the shield. Each design will have weak points that will break the die more often.

But it is very coincidental for a die pair to have two nearly identical die cracks to another die pair. Usually there'd be some slight differences in where the cracks overlap the letters. I don't blame you for asking!

Good learning piece, I couldn't find a better example of this if I looked for it.
