This year I experimented with buying ATB Quarters from the US mint. I first bought $25 bags and searched through them for MS65+. Using an 8x hand lends I found about eight per 100 and another 40 that were passable with tiny dings from siblings reeded edge. Then I bought rolls which I have not searched, yet.
I'm guessing that buying rolls may produce better results because of the abuse coins may get jostled around in bags. Is that a good guess?
Seems like reasonable logic. However, one could argue that the rolling machine is just as rough on coins as just dumping them into bags and having them bang into one another during transit. Either way they're being tossed around and exposed to other abuse.
For storage, though, rolls are probably better than bags.
Rolls for sure. I believe you answered your own question as each time that bag gets handled, more often haphazardly tossed around, the greater the chance of dings. In roll form that is all but eliminated since they are tubed flat.

Clarification on rolls. If at a coin show and the rolls appear loose, don't buy them unless near face value. On loosely packed rolls, the chances go up of finding rub marks on the high spots where one coin touches the other.
