My best guess is that this is a 1929-P Lincoln Cent.
Obviously a Greaser, but a very nice example of same.
There's a vdb on Abe's shoulder and traces of what I think are a 2, followed by a 9.

I like greasers, and I think they're collectible. But, as Rodney Dangerfield would say, "They don't get no respect."
But, there's one significant exception: the 1922 no-D, dies 1,3, and 4. Now that is a set of greasers that does get respect.

Got this one on ebay as part of a lot of two. I wanted the other one, and didn't much care about the Greaser.
But, it kind of grew on me. I figure the "greasing" doubles its resale value -- to maybe a nickel.

There appears to be an arc, running from the last half of TRUST down through the date. Could be old rolling machine crimp damage. If it is, it could account for the condition of the last two digits in the date--softened by much circulation, years of circulation.

Any chance for a higher resolution close-up of the east half of the obverse?

The crimp damage theory sounds very plausible.

Don't think I can do better with the camera I have. Don't think it much matters, as far as the value of the coin goes, whether it's crimp damage or a genuine Greaser.

That ring on the right side makes me think roll damage. But can't tell from photo. Would be worth at least keeping as example if Greaser.

My "fantasy coin" would be the Ultimate Greaser:
an S VDB cent with the entire date gone. That would qualify as the King of Greasers.
