You have a 1953 No Shoulder fold which is fairly common, it is the 1953 Shoulder Fold you want to keep an eye out for IMO.

On the NSF variety you will see the top of the "I" in "DEI" is flared out, however on the 1953 Sholder Fold you want to keep an eye out for will just be a straight "I" in "DEI" without the flare. You can see what I mean here on Coins and Canada https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...-1953&years=

Thank you John W.
now that we have this established that the coin is a NSF.
Here is it's reverse, which IMO is a small date, according to Charlton, right?
raises the question: what would this coin with a NSF-SD then be?
Would it be a mule? like in the 5 cent 1953? or something else?
or are we missing something about this designation?
I purposely posted the reverse after a reply was posted.

Your reverse is the 1953 LARGE Date , also known as High Relief.
In other words a regular issue coin . The Small date is paired with
The so called Shoulder Fold obverse , which in reality is low relief.
