Hello all,

I don't think I've ever seen anything like tis. There is a "metal ball" embedded in the eye of the Indian on the obv that goes all the way through to the rev on the top of the inside left leg. Comments please. Thanks.

Bill

Not a mint error, but I agree that this is an unusual way to deface this coin.

Honestly, that is weird in a kinda awesome way. Much more interesting than just grinding down a side of the coin or smashing two coins together.

Too small for a BB. More likely drilled a hole inserted a steel pin and peened the ends.

I'd say not a great way to waste a coin.

I stumbled across this Youtube poster who was cleaning out an old hoarder house and discovered a cache of pre-1965 coins. In one bag were about 20-25 of these odd nickels and a Google search brought me here. I'm no numismatist but I thought I'd share if some found it interesting.

More likely done with a round tipped punch of some sort. I don't think a BB gun would be able to penetrate a nickel to that extent. Too bad, that 1884 has some nice detail!
