Hello Out there!

I am fairly new to collecting of proof sets or any kind of Mint set period and wanted to know is this a fair price for this lot:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/152-Silver...AOSwMk5fHedG

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You need to sit down and crunch the numbers based on what is described by the Seller.

If you like what you see, and the numbers work for YOU, then you can start making best offers to the Seller.

For the most part, dealers are very reluctant to offer even 50% of "bid" for common proof and mint sets like this. Remember, something is only worth what you can sell it for on the day you bought it.

Good luck!

Agree with westernsky. Run the numbers. Spot check other ebay offerings and completed sales of set lots (where several sets are offered as a lot).
Rest in Peace

Like others have said, for such a large lot and $$, you will really have to run the numbers. My gut first told me it was expensive, but when I considered all that was there, I'm thinking it is not unreasonable.
Since you say you are new to collecting mint sets, I'd also ask myself if this is really what I want to spend all that $$ on.
I mean, if it isn't the mint sets that interest you but just getting complete runs of coins, you can buy complete collections in albums of modern cents, nickels, dimes, etc. for a lot less.

I have a feeling the the seller is decently honest.
Nevertheless as far as a good value for money deal is concerned, with the comments expressed so far,
I have a negative 'gut feeling'.

Especially if, as you have said that you are fairly new to getting a good idea of the numismatic aftermarket value of proof sets.
Have a good look around the market first, before deciding to buy.

In almost all cases, the aftermarket value of proof and mint sets is 50% or less than the original issue sale price.

The $2,500 'buy it now' is a lot to spend for a newby.

No. Not to me or anyone else for that matter. Most of these coins are clad and worth little more than face value.

Can't hurt to make an offer of what you are comfortable spending for what is there if you do want it. I have no idea how motivated this person is to sell it, but probably worth a shot if you're interested in it.

For all you know this is some coin dealer (new or old) that bought someones collection and wants to offload this bulky stuff. And if a dealer bought it, I'll guarantee they likely paid about face value or so per set for the clad, and under spot for the silver and had to offer for it all to get the things the dealer was really after.

The seller ended the auction, so either they found a buyer, or gave up on it, or sold a part of it and needs to relist it.
