This is an awesome coin. The strike is very strong with virtually no hits on the coin. The only thing holding it back is a carbon spot on the obverse. I would personally call this a 66 but not sure if the carbon spot would bring it down a grade. Tried to get better pictures. What do you think?

I'd say MS-66 but possibly "buy the coin not the holder" since many will find the toning spots distracting. I don't think they are bad enough to detract from the technical grade. I own quite a few spotty red cents in high end holders that I find really appealing but others are like "I'd never buy that coin". People forget this copper is nearly 100 years old and it's amazing to be anywhere near that level of red.

Thanks Fenton. It's so hard to find a perfect coin but this one has incredible luster. Also I got it for under $15 shipped!

MS-65RB. That reverse spot is large enough to keep this from full red.

Ok , pretty nice red & brn coin . But the obverse and reverse spots are a thorn in it's side . I actually don't think it's a details coin , no grade at this time .

I agree with Unc Details as well, that obverse spot looks to be corrosion that has cut into/bubbled the surface. Still a beautiful coin, but i'd be afraid to send it to a TPG. Kinda like a 69 Camaro with a rust bubble around the wheel well, still a beautiful car, not a rust bucket, but i'd keep it in my collection.

Might be worth an overnight soak in pure acetone to see if that spot comes off.

Looks like a 66RD to me. I would run it through the polarity ladder of solvents to see if that obverse spot improves.
