More than any other year LMC, I find nice red AU 1968 lincoln cents. They have a nice strong strike and so often look at first glance to be BU. Anybody know why this is?

I don't have an answer to your question. This question might help me though: Where are you finding AU red LMC? I may be able to answer your question after you answer that one!

Are they spotted?

All these in the mint sets have carbon spots or tarnish. Maybe people are spending them because they are bad.

I've noticed the same thing with the 1968. The strike always looks better than other years. I also find reds of this year in searching bank rolls. May have to do with the design changes of that year? Any other ideas?

I find them in rolls, not all AU, but many red 1968s, P, D, and S. Yes, they often have slight black spotting, not always. The strike is very strong with this year. I save a lot of them, red or not. I assume I'll get some of flack for saying this, some look BU.
