@cg, with a portcullis on one side and a moline cross on the other, this looks a lot like early 17th Century silver pennies of England. See this numista link for comparison:

The weight and mintmark aren't quite right, but hopefully this gets you started.

It looks like a silver halfpenny from Elizabeth I or James I.

The mintmark does not match any of those listed in Spink.
