I'd probably need to win the lottery to buy a genuine Cleopatra Thea and Antiochos VIII coin like this. I thought this one would make a nice place holder, and if nothing else, it is out of circulation so to speak.

Nice style for a repro. Was it sold as such, or was the seller trying to pass it off as genuine?

Speaking of fake Cleopatra Thea and Antiochos VIII coins, here's one I posted on Forum's Fake Coin Reports, showing an absolutely bizarre mash-up of an obverse Parthian (!) tet of Gotarzes II, and a Seleucid reverse of Cleo/Antiochos. As if that's not bad enough, it is being sold as genuine, for a high price, by an infamous New York "gallery."

It's a beautiful coin and I see nothing wrong with a nice looking fake - especially for those "out of reach" coins. Thinking of getting a Claudius denarius as I know I'll never afford a genuine.

For a fake it's not a bad looking piece.

The seller had other coins which appeared to be correctly attributed, but this one was listed as:
"Cleopatra Thea & Her Son, Antiochus VIII Coin - Queen of Syria 125-121 BC I don't have any information on this coin apart from my own research online, see below. I have a collection of coins that I am selling but I have to research first to find out who is on the face of the coin & description of the back so please check my other items out as they appear."

I translated it as: "I know this is a fake, but I'm being deliberately vague in the hope that someone thinks it is genuine."

Yes, the New York "gallery." fake really is bizarre Bob.

Good luck with the Claudius denarious @travelcoin. I guess that the reasonable looking fake is as near as we can get to the "out of reach" coins.

It feels quite good in the hand @echizento, but not quite right. It didn't cost much, so I was happy enough to pay what I did for it.
