Haven't posted for quite a long time.... Been more so absorbing all I can from here. Though I have a question.... might be redundant. While collecting say.....Wheats. I have noticed that 1956, 57, 58s; most of what you get in large Lots; quite a few are in BU type condition. This is also present with certain 60s strikes. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. Was there something special about those strike years? I'm sort of hoarding all my pre 80s as it is, though have many "BU" type rolls for the named years. Anyone do the same for these years? It's not like there's a huge premium for as many as I'm finding. Just wondering why we sort of got lazy in the 70s with some poor strikes.

Thanks,
Eric

Most wheat cents from the 1950s circulated for less than ten years before being pulled from circulation. That would be like pulling 1998 cents now - most of which are still at least AU in condition. The reasont the 1950s cents were pulled before they wore - the Memorial cent.

The 1960s cents are just noe being circulated because the huge plethera of bags saved int he early 1960s are still being opened and dumped into circulation. Collectors saved thousands upon thousands of bags of cents during the 1960s - one of the reasons for the removal of mintmarks from cents between 1965 and 1967.

Thanks CC.... Makes sense. So what do most of you w/these nice coins then? Make plenty of AU/BU rolls, & put them away for whatever many years to come...... which then a hoard of AU/BU 50s & 60s cents begin to be sold, or just put them in the pre 82 hoarding jar with the rest of the copper? After rolling several rolls, I literally have a small bag of these. I'm just concerned of preservation.

Thanks,
Eric

They aren't going to make anyone a mint, but the wheat cents are worth more than memorial cents...so those should be saved separately or sold separately at about 5-7 cents a coin.

The copper memorial cents typically sell for about 2 cents a coin.

Zinc memorials are pocket change.
