Hi,
Can anybody throw any light on what may have happened to the cent in the pictures. There appears to be an impression of the reverse side of another Lincoln Cent stamped on the the obverse side of this coin.
The pictures can explain it far better.
Is it the result of somebody with a hammer and too much time on their hands perhaps?
Thanks for looking, any information would be appreciated.

@dd, first welcome to CCF. Second it looks to me like this coin has been damaged by compressing it between other US cents in a machinist's vise.

Thank you Spence, I'm glad to be a member already.
I think that is definitely a good possibility.
A vice could definitely be the culprit.
I will investigate further.
Thank you again.

...Continued
The line and the depression of the metal beneath the line looks exactly like the footprint a vice's jaw would leave. I agree.
Case solved!
Thank you so much.

I agree with Spence. Compression post mint damage with another cent. Most likely a vise job. The fact that's it's misshapen is another clue.

to the CCF!

The incuse (recessed) letters that are backwards on the front is a giveaway.
