I don't believe this is a coin, from the broken off loop on the edge it's most likely some type of pendant. It's doesn't appear to be ancient or medieval either. The lettering that is visible is modern.

I'm going to move this over to the unidentified coin section.

Haven't a clue, and will be impressed if anybody identifies it. Safe to say, any numismatic value it had is long gone

My first thought was that maybe this is a medal that pertains to Pope Pius IX, a 19th century pope. But I think it is also possible that it is not IX but IA for those last two letters. Possibly there is a right facing portrait on that side.

But the second photo has what appears to be the Hapsburg eagle (crowned two headed eagle) or Russian imperial eagle.

Probably doesn;t help much, but maybe someone will recognize it.

@tdz, while I agree that it sure looks like PIUS IX on that first pic, wouldn't anything for him have been written PIVS IX? That second character definitely isn't a letter V.

He was a 19th century pope, so probably PIUS .
I also wondered if this is PRUSSIA, but it doesn't seem to work with the number of characters.

Thank you very much for your replies.

You are right. It can be religious or other type of pendant.

I have looked through my old Craig catalog which covers 1750-1850, focusing on Hapsburg lands, since I think the design on the reverse is the Hapsburg eagle. This obviously covers places in Germany and Austria, but also Italy (Lombardy and Duchy of Tuscany), Bohemia, etc.
I do not see any copper or bronze coin this size with a Hapsburg eagle that matches, so I think it is most likely some kind of medal or token (large copper coins were common in this period, but they were thick and very heavy).
Not an exhaustive search, but ...
