I found 1992 coin with smashed letters "A" and "M" on it.
It is hard to tell because on the Close AM coins the letters not always touch each other. The other reference for it to determine - off-centered "A" in the word "STATES". Is it hat the rule or it can vary?
( sorry for the wrong image earlier )

Wide AM. Both devises took a hit closing the gap between them. The FG initials are your best clue if you have the real deal or not.

I tried to trace the lines. Once again on the Close AM letters are not always completely touching.
What do you think?

Wide AM. The intersection point is just a tad too low.

Do a Google search on 'cent 1992 Close AM'. Look at the images that come up and check for the FG position.

Ok I will check FG. Thank you. But what about off-centered "A" in the word "STATES" Is it so? And, if yes - is it the rule and should be?

It is the location of the 'M' on the AME which determines if it is the close or Wide AM. On the Close AM, the 'M' is off to the left. On the side 'AM' it is centered.

Note the close 'AM' has more space on the right side of the area between the 'ME' on AMERICA?

So it means that the distance beetween the "M" and "E", and the distance between "E" and "R" supposed to be different on Close AM and it can serve as a reference too.
Ok Thank you

It is Wide AM. the damage on the letters makes them closer than they really are.
