Hi all,

I just wanted to share what I thought was an interesting article. With this coin shortage, I'm reminded of when gold and then silver coins were taken out of circulation, right before the price of those metals went "boom". Now with this shortage of coins, it might be the right time for nickel to start exploding with the EV revolution? Is this part of the motivation for a cashless society? Copper and nickel may be becoming more valuable in the near future. I'm holding all my junk change.... Not meant to fuel any conspiracy theories here, just curious myself about what's going to happen to these metals as EVs become more of a mainstay.

The US Mint has stepped up its coin production from roughly 1 billion coins per month to nearly 1.5 billion coins per month. Its basically a problem with the flow of coinage back to Loomis and other 3rd party coin roll distributors.

Still will be interesting to see what happens. I'm not saying copper or nickel will reach the heights of gold or silver, but I'm speculating that in 10 or 20 years, random quarters/nickels could possibly be worth more than their face value in nickel or copper if electric vehicles become the norm.

@ss119, a good topic to discuss, but we already have an open thread here:

I'm going to lock this one so that we can keep the conversation consolidated.
