You folks are all familiar with the Die Deterioration on zinc cents called "rim ridge"? Well guess what it can occur on other coins as well. You don't see it as often but it does happen. That's what you have here.

Thanks spruett001 condor101 john1 and coin searching. I wasn't sure if the slight weight difference had something to do with the letters on the rim. I guess this is going into a tube instead of a 2x2. Thanks

They usually don't look like that until the die state is really VLDS at that point. Here is a link to a 1950-D BU with the same look: (don't open this image with your phone as it will probably take quite a while to down load because of the size.

I didn't check, but mintmark location might be the same as this coin. If so, it maybe relative to this coin.

Thanks coop. That's partly why I posted this one there is no deterioration and if you look closely to the left and right of we and above tr in trust there seems to be a possible second strike or some sort of lettering. As always I could be wrong. Also thanks for the link. No computer so I'm going to risk opening on my phone fingers crossed

coinfrog I have to ask "Once mounted in a bezel " would the back letters also move if this was the case? And does vlds make the Ridge Ring ,or the press do it?

The affected rims would be flat looking like MD. That is not the case on this coin.
