These are interesting because it's generally accepted that there are more counterfeits than genuine. One telltale sign in this particular case is that the contemporary counterfeit coin looks better than the genuine. They just didn't very good at all. I have three categories of this coin: Genuine, Contemporary Counterfeit and Local Imitation. The first two of these are shown here.

Interesting comparison. I read in another thread that while local imitations were made in Cayenne/Guiana (and of lower quality), contemporary counterfeits could be made in Birmingham. That seems pretty well organized, is it known who ordered the manufacturing of those?
