I have been unable to match the images on numista or other sites.

weight 1.82 grams
diameter about 19 millimeters.

This one I am not 100 on the denomination, I think its a 2 Maravedis, but it should have a Latin legend and is from Cuenca.

Thanks. A two Maravedis should be 4.2 grams so perhaps it is a 1. In any case the design is a good match.

It is very "cut" so your coin is short of weight, the design is 2 maravedis mint Cuenca (C onthe left side of castle) and assayer is Cristobal Becerril (X and o above) he died in 1585 and probably worked from 1580/82 as assayer. Your coin has a grenade under the lion.

@Veton, that is very interesting. No wonder that these are hard to identify, since we cannot rely on the weight!

Those coins of 2 maravedís use to weight between 2 and 4.5 grams. Sorry but neither numista or catalogodemonedas.es are reliable sources to schedule those early modern times billons.

The book "Los maravedís de los Austrias" by J.L. López, date your coin between 1577 and 1582
