Hi osvar

I would never spend 600€ on a coin which I can't authenticate by myself, based on the opinion of some random people in a forum which only has seen the coin on a photo.

You can buy it on a place which at least, will guarantee authenticity and will manage a return if some time later there is any problem.

Regards

I follow this seller on Instagram and there was a long debate over it's authenticity. However, he got it graded by PCGS and they confirmed that it is authentic. Now, I'm not sure why he took it out of the slab, but it is real. PCGS considered it a Shipwreck example.

Genuine wreck piece. The toning (that specific slate grey which I've always assumed to be artificial) is VERY typical for the Reijgersdaal shipwreck.

Hi osvar!
Fake or original? The coin looks %100 authentic to me in the high resolution pictures. The weight is also correct.

Does it come from a shipwreck? The corrosion does look consistent with many shipwreck samples. But I wouldn't venture to claim anything further than that just by looking at pictures... only that it's a really beautiful pillar dollar coin.
I'll make no comments on the price though

Regardless of the authenticity, the price is way, way too high. Shipwreck coins without a certificate of authenticity are an issue. You may believe it's from the Reijgersdaal but can you convince the person you will sell it to of the same thing?

osvar I agree with almost all of the thoughts expressed here. The coin may be authentic, but you must be aware of the fact that PCGS does not actually authenticate foreign coins. They grade accurately but they rely on the submitter for the guarantee of authenticity.

That said, from my experience with 8Rs it looks like examples that come from the Reijgersdaal wreck - but that is also no guarantee.

It is not something I would buy at the offering price.
