Messing around with a PS3 tablet. These are reduced to 1000x1000 from 2900x2900.

The coin saw little or perhaps no circulation at all.
Over 14 million 1949 Pennies minted.
During and after WW2, large numbers of Pennies were issued into circulation and by 1949, enough had been issued, so that no more were needed.
For this reason, I suspect that the pictured coin may have not been issued into circulation, or if it had been, very late into the 1949 issue.

No Pennies for 1950 or 1951 were issued into circulation in the UK, although a small number were issued for British overseas territories.
1953 Penny only issued in sets, not into circulation.
1954 Penny unique.

Thanks Sel

I was curious about its condition because most the other pennies we brought back from England (1970) were regular circulated grades. I don't recall my parents buying any but it doesn't mean they didn't.

I have a nice 1953 I'll photograph for practice. I didn't know it was released in a set.

I use http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/va...nny.html#EII for rough values but no mintages. Can you recommend a site?

What is meant by "unique"? rare? The link used as well.

1953t sounds intriguing. Do yo know what toothed reverse means?

Thanks again!

"'Unique' means one."

... except on ebay, when unique is used to describe anything the seller hopes might be rare or valuable even if 65 million of them were struck!

So there was only one 1954 struck or only one found? Did they make the die series for 1954?

I found the difference between toothed and beaded so disregard that question.

When I was a schoolboy collecting British coins from change in the final couple of years prior to Decimalization, 1949 pennies weren't all that common, but when found often had good hairlines on George VI's portrait and traces of lustre between the lettering - a sign that they had probably been placed in store and not released into circulation until the late 1950s or early 1960s.
