Nice coin. I suspect the tape mark could be where the coin has rubbed against a seam on the plastic wallet in which all 1953 pennies were originally sealed, or maybe someone patched up a torn plastic wallet with sticky tape - they were made of quite brittle plastic.

Agree with the above statements. The plastic on those sets was still a very early form (1953 Plastic was like a wonder material and very "space age").
