Hi all, New member here. Questioning value of
1964-D Lincoln missing initials. I have been trying to do research on this variety, which I recently found. Found info on 1964 Lincoln missing initials but nothing on 1964. Would appreciate some ideas from people in the know such as you're selves. Having trouble loading images.

Photos needed.

This statement is a little confusing: "Found info on 1964 Lincoln missing initials but nothing on 1964."

First, to the CCF. You will find an amazing knowledge pool here. I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination though.

I think you might be referring to the 1969-D LMC. There are dozens of examples of the no "FG" which resulted from over polished dies.

You can use the link https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...g-images.asp on how to crop and down load photographs, so you can show us your coin in question, it would help us help you.

In my earlier post about 1964-D missing initials, I intended to say I found info on 1969-D missing initials. Still trying to figure out how to post images.

Well why could it be missing? The VDB is incuse on the coin. Meaning it is below the normal surface of the design. How does the die create an incuse mark on a coin? The die being a negative of a coin, if it is incuse, then the devices needed to form these devices would have to be raised on the die. Because of die polishing, it removed the raised area on the die. Now the strike on coins after this happens, would be that these incuse devices would be removed. (not visible) This is not a die variety, but a die event. So all coins struck with that die after the devices are removed, so all the rest of the cent struck with that die will not have the VDB. So it is common error, and not listed as it is not a variety coin.

The OP is talking about the FG on the reverse.

LOL. I immediately thought obverse initials. Well I have to look again at his post and copy that information to a new image of VDB missing issues.
