This is an inherited coin, as near as I can tell, it ain't worth much. So I am wondering why Grandpa would have it protected in a plastic case? A 10 cent coin in a 1 dollar case? Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks

Maybe it has sentimental meaning? Or his first coin.

actually a fairly high grade.
Perhaps he found it in his change and wanted to be sure to keep it?

That's a $10 coin if it's AU and it looks like it might be. Was he born in 1920?

I'd take it off your hands for $1 and I'll pay for the stamp!

It had a special meaning to him for some reason.

Why not just figure that it isn't worth enough to get rid
of it, so just hang on to it now that it has a different
special meaning to YOU. It was his, and that's enough.
If you sell it off, what will you get out of it... Maybe
a hamburger meal?

Yeah, I'm not really looking to sell - not even for a really good burger meal.

I'm just wondering if there is a special error or variety of this coin, as this one is protected and he had scores of lincolns (little pun there) in much better shape that are just in tubes.

BTW - the pics must really make this look better, going by the standards, this coin is F-VF, not even close to AU.

with both of them!

I hope you are able to find out what it was. It should already be special to you, but knowing what made it special to him would make it even more so!

I know this isn't the grading forum... but since we're talking about the grade of this coin...

It's hard to tell from the images, but I'm fairly certain this is going to fall in the VF range. I can tell that there's separation between the cheek and jaw which will make it a minimum of VF... But I also think I see enough wear on the shoulder to exclude it from EF.

Could be he wanted to halt the toning process, it looks like it has some nice woodgraining.
