Hello everyone! Newbie to the community forum here with a question. I just received my 2020 Proof Set, finally. When I saw the W proof nickel it comes with I noticed it had some golden-yellowish spots on the obverse and reverse. Does this affect it's collectors value? Kinda bummed about it.
I tried to take the best photo possible but my phone isn't the best for it and I haven't taken the coin out of the bag yet either.

@ivan, first welcome to CCF. Second, for a proof coin, yes I suspect that surface stains would hurt the numismatic value. I know that you are trying to get us good pics, but these are so out of focus that it is impossible to see what you have there.

Strange and not ideal to have that kind of toning on a new coin

In order to get a replacement, you would have to return both the set and nickel. Contact the mint for a return shipping label.....That's what I would do....

It can, yes. Mine had a small but noticeable dark spot on it near TJ's right eye, but it wasn't too distracting and I didn't get it from the Mint, so I'm keeping it.

picture is through the bag which is why it won't focus, I see what you are talking about, I feel like it's from grease. not sure if pure acetone would remove it.

if it's a 2020 set, you could return it and just buy another after. there's plenty of time, and not have to bother messing with it. If you remove it from the plastic, it's gonna be a problem for the mint I think for a return on not being happy with the quality.

I can make it out though, to the left of jeffersons head on the obverse, and above Monticello in the Pluribus as well as in United.

as far as better pictures you can try less light and backing off the magnification some. it may focus better.

I think it's grease from the strike and poor quality control. probably cleans right up, but if it doesn't you might be stuck with it so better to make the return I think and order another set.
