Wanted to Let the pictures do the talking but just wondering if this is plausible, or even possible? After doing more research.
Couldn't have Henning realistically taken a 1944 obverse die and turned the 44 into 64? Then take either a 39 or 44 reverse die add the D mint mark, and filled in the die cracks? Or could this be a whole new set of dies completely?
Could this even be possible? Because That's what it looks like to me. Notice the faint shadowy outline of the huge crack in between U and S going into roof of building. Some examples that I've came across have matching markers.
Ive been searching for anything on when he was known to tell interviewers about the dates and that one was still unknown.

There is too much grey area and too huge of a time gap where nobody knew what this guy was up to after his prison sentence. My math has him booked in 55 out somewhere in like 61ish. So who knows when he let that info about the 6th die leak. And who says he stopped counterfitting?

This Nickel weighs 4.90g

I think it's just environmental damage. 1964 doesn't really make sense given he was busted in 1954

But he did 6 years. And was probably on some type of supervised probation or parole for another couple years after his release.
Bet he stashed some old dies. I'm Just putting myself in his shoes, I'm not throwing all of my hard work in the river and I'm gonna need a way to make money when I got out. Gotta think like a criminal.

Sorry, this is illogical. Why would someone trying to pass innocuous worn nickels create one with a date 20 years in the future?

All that plus the weight is normal for a mint issue. Sorry but I'm firmly in the not-a-Henning camp.

You guys obviously dont know what it's like to do a prison sentence, get released from said prison sentence. They kick you out the door with a bus ticket and nothing to do or nowhere to go. Nowhere to go besides where you were before you got busted, doing the same thing that got you busted in the first place. Oh yeah you do get to work for some money in prison. Less than one dollar a day. Most guys will leave with just enough cash to use it to catch another charge most likely the same type of charge you just got done doing time for. People he was a counterfeiter, of nickels at that. He probably used them to stay fed and survive of that. Guys like that don't just quit what they know. Its their way of life. I bet there are many Henning denominations circulating nobody knows about but him.

@redbeard, I hear your frustration and perhaps you do have something there. Remember though that you have asked us for our opinion and we are just giving it.

I suggest that you look up Occam's Razor and then if you are still convinced then send this coin in for slabbing at a TPG.

I dont mind being humbled. Ive learned some of the best stuff on here and I appreciate everybody's time and effort.
As for this coin Its only frustrating hearing opinions that have nothing backing them but hollow knowledge of the subject. In my opinion they are uneducated conclusions in which they have jumpin to, which is also why nobody has any evidence to disprove my coin.
I want a couple people who really know their stuff on Hennings to provide evidence or at least educated opinions as to why this coin isn't a Henning.
until then I may really have to start thinking seriously about sending this confusing thing into an expert.
Yo Spence what is TPG and why would that be the best place to send this coin?

Alright. Now look. I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to break silence on this one. A close friend of mine is an ex-con. 3 Felonies, 4 Misdemeanors. Based on how he pled out he got 2 years w/o parole then 2 years in an RTC. Let me make it 100% clear, I don't agree with what he did, I think what he did was horrible and distasteful. However, he decided to make a change for himself.

He had PWID, Assault 1, AWDW, Poss of a DW by a minor, Poss of a Cntrl Sbst Greater than 1oz (coke), assault 2, evading arrest. Not exactly the cleanest rap sheet. Guess what? I've kept in contact with him for the last 3 years, I can respect 2 things about him. 1, he's honest as all get out. Why'd be plea guilty? Because he wanted to tell the truth. 2, he, while having done bad things, is a good guy. Guess what? He got released a year early and got parole after 6 months at the RTC. He's been drug free and hasn't caught a charge since. He has a kid, and he's been working an honest job to provide for his son because his dad was never there for him, and he doesn't want his son to deal with what he had to.

Oh yeah you do get to work for some money in prison. Less than one dollar a day.

You guys were getting money? We didn't at the RTC. Lucky you.

Now here's a toughie, how about, if you really regret going to prison, and you hate it there, don't do the thing that got you there in the first place. I know. Nuts.

Don't assume everyone is like you. I know ex-con's who've shaped up, I know some who haven't. But guess what? The ones who really regret what they did, and hated what they went through are the ones who are clean now.

I was in an RTC for 2 years. I was there, not for criminal charges, but because of depression and mental health issues. That was no prison, but it was a placeholder in some cases. I had roommates who were there for attempted homicide. I had roommates who were there for homicide. I had roommates that were there for slinging dope. So guess what? I had to adapt to that environment. Guess what? I'm glad you're out of prison. Now start adapting back to the normal world and stop using your conviction as a crutch to try to play the victim. None of my roommates did that, and I can promise you they were probably a lot harder then you are.

You do understand the people responding have been doing this for decades right? From a probability standpoint, who likely knows more?

Coinfrog why does this seem so outlandish? For reals guys I've onky been doing this a few month's, haven't seen a Henning in person, but If this is Environmental Damage how can you explain the very Henning like R, or the giant die crack cover up? One or the other yeah, but both? There's no such thing as coincidence

Grapecollects rock on dude. I do appreciate the words of wisdom and I agree with everything you said except for the fact that I was hiding behind a conviction or something like that. IDK how you said it. Look at Henning on paper which is his criminal record and there will be at least two different charges having to do with fake money. Then ask yourself what the majority of people thought he was doing in 1964. but let's just say you wouldn't have found me on a coin forums website a couple years back. I am a living example of turn my life around and not letting the past Define me. really stinks though because I am pretty sure that I am in the minority. Its just how the system is setup and its reality. I am blessed to have a family that stuck with me until I figured out what to do with my life. And I have finally found it in numismatics. I feel blessed everyday. But you gotta be real grapes some people never find their "coin community"

Grape than why can't anybody explain to me in somewhat complete sentences why this is not a Henning? When my main goal is to gain knowledge the vague responses don't get me anywhere.

Sorry, add me to the non Henning club. The damage to the R is pretty clearly PMD, similar damage to the surrounding letters. Your drawing the conclusion thet this is a Henning largely based on the R, correct, then if he did use the same die as his prior counterfeits, why is this not identical to the others. Edit: also not seeing any signs of the "centers up die crack", again just damage. There is such a thing as coincidence on coins, especially more heavily worn and damaged ones. It's called Pareidolia.

As Coinfrog said, why would he counterfeit a nickel with a future date when he had the ability to create any past date. He had just a little bit of sense the first time around to not release a lot of the more easily red flagged currency, so why draw attention to ones self by releasing thousands of coins from the future.

Does not add up. Send it off to a TPG ( third party grader) and see what the outcome is. We're all just trying to help (and save you some time and money). Good luck!
