1970 JFK D Possible 90% Silver? - Coin Community Forum

MichaelSisler198 New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 09/04/2020 11:28 pm Yes I was going through my coins sets and happen to look at the Jfk from denver mint and the whole reed looked silver, I examined my 1970 jfk S and the reed was 2 toned like 40/60 like it should be nut the JFK D looks entire silver could I have an error even though it had been 6 years since they were 90 percent silver? Any help would be great I cant find any pictures of a 1970 d jfk reed edge to compare just my 1970 S and my D is completely silver not two toned Report this Post to the Staff

Over time, if the coin tones, the edge will appear less silvery and begin to show a reddish tint because of the copper in the clad layering. It seems likely you have a coin that is not exhibiting significant edge toning. Weighing the coin should provide a clear answer, however. The weight of a 90% silver half dollar is 12.50 grams.
