Hello,
I was trying to look up the value of an 50 Mils 1935 from British Palestine I have.
After a little goggling I learned that they should be .720 silver and have a weight of 5.83 grams.

The problem is, mine is in zinc, weighs 3.72 grams and looks the same.
I was hoping someone out there have some information, if it's documented in any books?
Because I couldn't find any trail strikes, errors, variants or sales on any of the sites I visited :(

Without seeing pics it's impossible to tell, but my guess would be a circulating counterfeit.

Here are pics, a bit bright though...
Yea, probably a counterfeit, but weird that they used zinc?
I have seen a silver plated copper 50 mils 1930īs and that I can understand... but the copper fake one was not very good either

I admit: I know very little about fakes of these, nevertheless,
what is the possibility that it may have been a trial strike in zinc?

As Palestine was a British protectorate, I'm pretty sure their coins would have been minted by The Royal Mint, London.

There wouldn't have been any need to make a "trial strike" in 1935, and nobody was making zinc coins in 1935. So it's not a "wrong planchet". I'd still agree with my original "counterfeit" hypothesis.

As for "why zinc", well, it would have looked silvery when originally struck. Remember, a counterfeiter only needs to fool one person, once, and it's mission accomplished - they wouldn't care what their coins looked like after a hundred people had handled it, or in 50 years time. To me, the use of zinc implies a wartime-era counterfeit; perhaps they used zinc simply because all other silvery-coloured metals were too expensive or difficult to obtain due to the war.

why they would counterfeit this coin without making it at the same or at a close weight? In 1940 there was zinc coins in Lebanon and Syria which are neighbours of Palestine , but are quite rare because the zinc rust easily .Maybe it is a trial of necessity coin in a war era counterfeit and maybe it is counterfeit . I find it beautiful
