I've been lucky enough to find two West Point quarters in brand new bank rolls, Weir Farm and National Park to be precise. I'm wondering since they are brand new if it's worth it to send them to get professionally graded or keep them as is since I know it should fetch a good MS grade. Any thoughts?
My thoughts are : this program is absurd. It will not stimulate general collecting amongst the public but will become a vehicle for ebay profits and another blank hole to fill in the ever expanding universe of quarters. It has already become a racket and even if I find one in my wife's change I don't want any AU coins in my set. What a waste of effort by the mint to aid profiteers. It serves no practical purpose and it smacks of gimmickry.
to CCF. Check ebay sold values and see in what grade it needs to be for it to be worth $150 or more? As a general rule a coin need a retail value of $150 slabbed. John1
I say they are not worth getting graded. Grading cost a lot more then then coin is worth. But I would hold on to them. In 10 years, Who knows what the will be worth
I started coin collecting maybe 1-2 months ago and these quarters plus a Panamanian quarter are by far the rarest I've come across so if it is a gimmick, I don't personally mind it. Maybe my opinion will change in the future but for now it's cool enough for me, but thanks for the info all the same.
On the W quarters they are only worth slabbing if they are exceptionally free of bag marks and scuffs. They need to be 66 quality at a minimum and more towards 67 and up. Very few will meet that lofty standard.
The only W to hold good value so far has been the 2019 American Memorial Park. Nice ones are tough to find.
Of course the W quarter program is a gimmick! Everything the Mint sells is a gimmick to get you to pay far more for something than it's worth!
Only difference with the W quarters is YOU can find them in circulation at face value! If you find more than you need you can always ebay'em and you get to make the profit, not the Mint!
