Hello! I have a number of foreign coins, but I can't identify the Year for a set from Japan. If you can help identify the year on these, I'd greatly appreciate it. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

@arnold, I'm going to move your thread over to the world coin section off CCF so that we can get the appropriate eyeballs on it. In the meanwhile, I note that the numista website often has tables with both the calendar and rental years listed.

There are many online resources that explain the dates on coins. I have found and printed many of them. It's best to post both sides of coins, but it looks to me like coin #1 is 1980 and coins #2 is 1987. Respectively the remainders look like 88,77,72,86,81,84,and 52. Here's one more link of many to read dates on Japanese coins. http://www.worldcoindatabase.com/da....php?page=jpHere is one sample of a good book in print to have.

Did you see and learn why coins #1 and #2 are 1980 and 1987 instead of 1955 and 1962?

There are easy to read charts to be found online. In this case for Showa we take 1926 and subtract 1 equals 1925 and add the 55 (5x10+5) from the coin. Add 1925+55 = 1980
