I don't know what caused this to the edge on the obverse and reverse. Plus it has some lathe marks. Sorry if this is to many pics.

It appears that it is a former Encased Cent that was popped out of the ring.

It looks like a partial collar strike by the rims railroad look and the appearence seems like a broad strke on obverse.

Hi,

That is not a "railroad rim". It's a coin that was removed from an encasement.

A "railroad rim" coin is struck partially in the collar and actually looks like a railroad wheel with a flange. The link should take you to a picture of one. Note the difference in appearance of the edge.

Thanks,
Bill

If this coin has been removed from an encasement, they did a pretty crappie job of encasing it.

I'm still trying to figure who would want one encased. I would think they would have picked a key date and we would all be bummed out right now. OH I do have something to keep everyone in tears. Sorry guys.Looking at this makes me

Good picture of the partial collar Bill. From all the things that I see that people try to call "railroad rim" I would strongly suspect that a lot of people have never really seen a train up close before.
