There are a couple of these silver dollars available in the Colonial Acres premiere auction this weekend, and I decided to take a look at the photos. I am not going to bid on these, but the more coins I see online and in person can only help my numismatic experience and grading skills. Having looked at the photos, I am struggling to see the existence of the little dot next to the pointed 7. Are the photos just substandard, or my vision poor? They don't look like what's in my Charlton catalogue. Here's a link to one example I am talking about. I don't see the dot, even though ICCS has certified it as such. I don't see it on the other examples up for auction either. https://auctions.colonialacres.com/...55_i38235263

the one you linked. the 4th photo shows a red arrow, pointing to a dot.. That is not where the dot should be.. very confusing..

Ha! I didn't even look at the last photo, but I agree that this isn't where the dot is supposed to be. I am now reconsidering whether to collect this variety at all (once I have saved up enough money that is), if there is this much ambiguity as to dot placement. Here's the other one up for auction. There is no helpful arrow on the last photo, so your guess as to where the dot is located is as good as mine. https://auctions.colonialacres.com/...60_i38235262

detailed answers to your questions are in nearly every Charlton book and on the CoinsandCanada site. excellent sources of information. admitted, IF there is a dot on this coin, (ICCS is always right?)it is extremely difficult to locate, as it is obstructed by a tiny vertical hairline scratch. By searching first yourself, you learn a lot of other info also.

I did search Coins and Canada, and I have looked at my copy of the Charlton Catalogue. They don't match what I am seeing in the coins up for auction. In fact, the Coins and Canada photo looks the same as for the regular pointed 7. See link below. https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...ar-1937-1952

On the Coins and Canada site, in the "varieties" section for the 1947, it is the same coin for all 3 photos. Just look at the ding on the 9 and the scratches below the date.I always thought that the dot was right where the maple leaf usually is, but much smaller. OK, here is a good pic from the CaC site, but long ago: http://goccf.com/t/160080

Thanks okiecoiner. I do see the dot in the photo in the old thread you linked to, but the ones up for auction don't appear to have the dot in the right spot. It may be easier to spot in hand, rather than through photos posted online.

My guess is that Colonial Acres made a mistake with the arrow on the first link, not ICCS.
Admittedly they are hard to find, even with the coin in hand, let alone on a website with not-the-best photos...
