I'm just about to purchase a QX5 on ebay for just under $90. I like the idea of being able to view the coin a lot better on the PC, without messing up my eyes for hours using a loupe. I know that some of you use it, just wondering your feedback. Are you satisfied with it? Does it shoot "adequate" pics? I can't afford a scope like CC & others, though I wish I could. I'm just looking for efficiency & clarity. Thanks, Eric -moved to coin photography forum--mod

cg, like all new toys, it'll take some time and practice. Well worth it and takes great pictures.

Hi, I think for the price, it does a decent job--despite its quirks with lighting and rough focus controls. Outside of a few concerns, I'm quite happy with it--especially for the reduced eyestrain of simply placing a coin under the QX5, and viewing on my monitor. And it does decent screen captures too--here are a few recent pics: This is a composite built from a QX5 photo: Another of an IHC RPD:

I like it very much. Takes some time to get the hang of it.

Nice pics. I guess you can't beat the price. I think I'll try it. If not satisfied, there's a 30 day return policy.
Again Thanks, Eric

Hi all. I just recently purchased a QX5 too. It's a nice piece but I am having problems with the lighting. Sometimes there are too much shadows or too much brightness even if I control the lights. Are you guys using a different light source? The worst thing that happens is that it hangs my computer and I have to reboot. I am using a Pentium 4 unit but my friend says the computer is slow for the QX5. Do you experience these types of situations? Thanks

Junjie, Yes...every pic I take from my QX5 has some kind of lighting problem, which I fix the best I can in photoshop. I tried using a second light for the scope, but found that's confusing for coin details. It hasn't crashed my Thinkpad notebook yet.

Thanks KurtS. I believe I have to play around with it more and have my computer checked. Except for these two situations the unit is worth it at that price.

junjie, If you don't have enough RAM, it will give p[roblens. If possible, I would consider up=grading the MB, and more RAM. Are you using 98SE, or XP? It should work fine with 98SE, but it might give some trouble on XP. I have the QX3, and use it on both, aas I have the software installed on both units my computers are all generic, so I don't have to pay for the "NAME" when I buy MB, and CPUs, etc Dick

I have used my QX-5 with XP since day one and never had a problem. My computer is a P4 3.2GHZ with 4GB of ram (even though windows only see's 3.25GB of ram because its the 32 bit instead of 64) So the QX-5 works just fine with XP, It also could be the video card if its an on board card but I am not sure that would even cause it to hang up. I have had mine for a couple of years and have never had a problem. My lighting seems to work better than some others as they have posted and asked how I did the lighting because their pictures didn't look as well as mine and I have no answer for that because I usually just use the light thats built in and do not modify the picture with any software
