The display on my QAX-5 has gone black. All the other functions work fine just no picture. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks Mike

Mine is still working fine. Have you checked the connections or possibly re-installed the software? When you run the scope, does the light turn on? That might suggest some signal is getting from PC -> QX5 Good luck!

KurtS, I have been working with the manufacturer for several weeks now, they sent me a new software disk and even had me remove the software manually from the registry. The light is on and I can access my captured images ok, just no live picture. They dont seem to want the machine back, but I think it is hardware related. How long have you had your unit? I love the machine and have some coins I would really like to post, but I can not get the kind of closeup photos I need from my camera. At $95.00 I may just get a new one.
Thanks
Mike

Mike, I've had mine about 8 months and hopefully nothing goes wrong here. But like you said--it's not a huge expense to replace. Good luck--I hope you don't have to buy a new one, and maybe someone else here will have some ideas.

I have had mine since 1999 but mine is called an "Intel Play" and was in a clearance bin at Target for $10. The software for it originally was labeled Mattel IntelPlay QX3 so I assume the one you have is just a different version marketed to a different group (collectors as opposed to kids) Mine came with a nice adjustable table just like a regular microscope. Has 10X, 60X and 200X. I bought it for looking at coins and have been able to update the software online to keep using it with my upgraded computers (the original software disc only works with Windows 98) These are great tools. I hope you get yours fixed.

I just sent the unit back to the manufacturer on friday. It took a while to get them to agree that it was a hardware problem. I will let you know how it turns out.

Just received my unit back today. (less than one week) Works like a champ. Total cost $8.50 for shipping it to them.
Good luck

Glad you have your init working again. I hace the "digital Blue", and it is the same QX3. It has worked from day one, and my only complaint is, (was ), the focus adjustment. It was so jumpy, that the coin woind work itseklf off the support, and it took forever to get it focused, finally. I modified the base, (actually made a wood base that is a snig fit for the 'scope, and mounted it on my QSZ scope, when the head is removed. That wat the focus mechanism works great. Dick
