Any ideas on what grade this slabbed coin should have? The "toning" on the reverse on the torch (upper portion, below flame) is a little more distracting than the photo would indicate. Thank you...

There is a small mark in the hair, above ear but closer to top of head, that I can't see in the photo.

Hi Steve

The glare on the photo makes it pretty hard to see the fields , If the only things which are on the coin are the toning and the nick you mentioed then the coin could grade MS-64/65 if there are other things which are hidden by the glare then My opinion could change .

the toning unless its really bad ugly will not affect the grade of the coin , but it can affect the value based on eye appeal and collector interest.

try taking the pic with diffused light to avoid the slab glare .

My first question would be "who slabbed it?" because a 1950D Roosie is nothing special below MS67 and the grading fees would cost almost as much or even more than the coin would be worth The one exception might be that if it was given a FT designation(Full Torch), that is for coins with fully struck and separated horizontal bands on the torch. This designation can increase the value quite a bit with some Roosies although I am not familiar enough with 50D to know one way or the other. From the provided pics, it does not look like an FT coin to me. However, just because it is not worthy(IMO) of being entombed in a piece of plastic, that does not make it junk. It is quite a nice early Roosie with a grade of 64 or 65 probably and a better than average strike, better pictures would help.

I didn't slab it; and it is in an NGC holder...with a 67 grade on it, no FT designation. I am skeptical of the grade, and I appreciate the opinions of you folks. Won't be able to take a better photo, because I have returned the coin to the seller.

thanks,
steve
