This is just in. There is a light scratch in the left field on the obverse. It's hard to pick up the scratch in hand, but it's there. Do you think it straight grades and if yes or no what do you grade it as? Thanks.

I think the obverse scratch/gouge that appears in the 2nd photo might hold it back from a straight grade. Interesting it doesn't really show in the first photos either like the die crack.

Otherwise its pretty coin! I love these Bust dimes, I just got back into working on finishing the date set I'd started 25 years ago and kinda forgot about.

It may hold it back from a straight grade....but it's definitely worth a piggyback down the road. I have to look at the coin at a 30-40 degree angle or so just in the right light just to barely detect the scratch. I can't see it looking straight on.I just picked up an 1836 and 1835 PCGS graded capped bust dimes that are in the mail....to start such a set. I'll post those later all I have now are the seller's photos which are not the closest photos that could've been taken. These first two photos are from the seller straight on. It appears to be a cell phone camera.

@Grapecollect Down the road a bit in this case is more like 15 - 20 years. I bought a metal detector a month or so ago for exercise and ease while social distancing while in groups or alone while this pandemic has got the country in the state it is. Interest in metal detecting is actually up right now for those reasons. I bought this coin this week along with the Dansco bust dimes album I purchased a few weeks back. This is my starter coin to put in and I'm going to try and fill it with metal detector finds for some time and submit the winners if there are any after trying to fill this up for quite a while. Good thing we are on the east coast with farms and fields to have a chance to find these coins. We're literally and figuratively on the right side of the country for finding the old coins. Check out what the Hoover Boys find on their metal detecting hunts on Youtube. They are also from Maryland.

Good luck on your detecting adventures! I've done a bit myself and come up with some interesting relics, no coins though. I do have a permission to head to at some point, though I did an initial test of the site and there is probably 25 to 30 garbage targets (nails, screws, etc) to every legitimate signal. Though the benefit is the property is a farmhouse that dates to the early 1700s with an older house nearby from the mid 1600s.

I do know the Hoover Boys. I've only ever worked with them once, and that was by referral. I assisted in getting one of their finds certified a year or so back but beyond that haven't had much of an interaction with them. I do watch their content and it is quite entertaining. A good friend of mine loves their content, though he's not a coin guy, purely for the historical elements. He's studying to become a history teacher so this is right up his alley.

XF45 and AU50 would not surprise me at all but I like to see a little original luster peaking through for AU and I'm not seeing it
