While I have nothing against CAC, and I understand the purpose fully, for me personally I've passed on CAC graded coins for another same grade without because the overall eye appeal was greater. Perhaps the ones in question simply had not been submitted yet. No matter, a few questions arose. How many others out their feel the same way? And, do you feel that the CAC certified coins will retain such a premium in the long term, say twenty years? Hard to generalize, but guessing I only agree with the CAC sticker about 75% of the time. The coin itself tells the story, and I try not to be overly influenced by stickers and grades.

Here's my take. If you laid out 10 coins on a table with the coins covered so I could only see the top half of the slab and told me they were all the same date, grade and denom and told me to pick 3 I'd probably grab the one with a sticker first. Does that mean that all CAC coins are nice, no, not by a long shot, though usually they are nicer. That being said the number of coins slabbed goes up exponentially by the year why the number of coins stickered per year remains fairly constant due to the limited CAC submitter. Therefor a decreasing % of the slab population is stickered.

The sticker only tell me it is on the half or upper half of the graded score, example MS-65.5, MS 65.6, MS -65.7... and anything else below that don't get the sticker. Yes. There are better coins in the same numeric grade that will probably never get the sticker, like getting insurance on top of insurance.

I myself am not adding a coin into my collection with a green bean that I find to be ugly vs a non-stickered coin that I find to be beautiful. Edited by scopru

Personal Eye Appeal. This will always win for me as a collector. The sticker is just an opinion on the grade given to the coin. Like any opinion, it can be wrong or subject to bias. Be your own judge, buy the coin you like. Cover the labels if that helps you make a choice. Now, if you are an investor...  |

Eye appeal always wins over CAC for me, and often even over actual number grade.

CAC means John Albanese wants to buy it. Maybe just now. Still, this means something to some folks.
