Recently obtained a decent Maundy set and would like to get some suggestions on how to display them.

Ideally, I would like it to: contain all four coins, display both sides, be portable

Thanks in advance.

"most likely some sort of capitol plastic holder."

Thanks for the idea.

Capital didn't have one, but I did find this made specifically for the sets.

Though it appears that they come in packs of ten. Does anyone know if these are singles?

If you search on ebay.co.uk you may well find empty boxes for these, depending on the date... In the past they came in smart leather or leatherette boxes.

I like this idea and did not realize they came in cases, originally.

They are from 1800 so, unfortunately, this may be unlikely.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If they are from 1800, it could be hard as standard machine made size coins did not come in until 1816 and 1800 dated coins whilst largely round can be a bit wonky to fit in a box - they will either get stuck or bounce around a bit when open or closed.

Sadly that leaves a plastic strip or if you are really adventurous, get a mould made around the coins and see if that can be used into a fabric lining for a box (This would no doubt leave residue on them).

Otherwise it just may be a set of holders - possibly mylar or 2 x 2s for each coin.

The best way to display a Maundy set is to put the coins into a velvet lined box specially designed for the set.
Even better, if the display box has inserts for capsules of four individual sizes.
Capsules help prevent unsightly uneven toning.

I have bought ex Royal Mint velvet lined leatherette cases and capsules, which were previously sold as new for other coins. This is a good approach for high MS crown sized coins, such as Double Eagles.

4x slabs may be a preference for other collectors. These can be stored in slab album pages.

I just use Mylar flips, inside of which I enclose the coins in a piece of folded acrylic sheet recovered from food or toy packaging.
